no its about chris's (lead singer) wifes dad dying and him trying to help her through it. i saw an interview with him when it first came out, hope thats cleared it upp for ya :)

This song was written by him, because his uncle died from cancer. His uncle was 55 years old, and he (Chris) had a close bond with him. So sad =[ This reminds me of all of my grandparents who have died =[ (2 grandmas and 2 grandpas) Coldplay is the best!! =D
