a simple reply but once you start learning you will soon find to be complex is. you have notes that make up scales and chords and you use those to make a key. then you choose to play in 1 or more keys by setting a rythm, playing a melody or improvising over a rythm with scales in a melodic fashion. then once you get good you will learn to play rythm and melody at the same time in a lead fashion. this can apply to all genres of music.

i like blues, rock, metal, dance. not just one type of music. I actually can watch jazz festivals on tv but im saying actually playing jazz GUITAR is boring

Jazz and blues is probably the best kind of genre. I play it and m thiteen so BOOYAH

Actually I'm pretty young. 28yr old. What's actually sad is your lack of appreciation for other styles of music. I know a lot of "young" ppl in my age group who appreciate all genres, yes, even Jazz. Guess that's something you can't comprehend.

You're right. Screaming obnoxiously into a microphone with a screeching guitar that barely sounds harmonious would in fact be more exciting. You're exactly right. But I'll stick with the smoothness and class that Jazz has.

I do also feel that Jazz is very underestimated and is definetly a very challenging genre to play but when you flame a genre and about 60 sub genres thats not cool. Although at least you responded unlike some of the retards on youtube who cant even interpret a simple message and just sit and swear.

1st of all, response was to "chrisharvey9" not at you. 2nd, I will not disclose the names of the 2 teachers because I don't want their personal info brought out to this public page. 3rd, I don't think any one genre is better than the other. But it's annoying that ppl like "chrisharvey9" make negative comments about Jazz with out understanding its complexity. Don't tell me to get over myself when I had good intentions with my statement. I was just defending a genre that a lot of ppl over look.

That is such a generalization for one it depends on the sub genre of rock. you obviously said guitar teachers because you wanted to make your opinion stated as a fact. do these teachers have names or are they just made up like im sure they are? Please don't try to make a genre somehow sound superior. Its only your opinion just get over yourself.

Apparently you haven't heard good Jazz guitar. Guarantee Rock players could NOT do half the grace that Jazz guitarists do. Guitar teachers have even confirmed this.
