Correct! This is the only way to wrap crown around those rounded corners done down south and the southwest.

man , we do them corners in all the houses here in tx .. cause the use that round corner stuff when tape and beading

Yep, on tape I *forgot* to tell people to cut a small flat triangular piece of wood to fill the gap on the inside corner. It is really simple to do that. I just glue it in place.

Outside corner looked nice ... inside corner looked like crap with the huge gap, which will need to be filled in with a trim piece, but even then it's not a look I would be OK with ... great tip though, I will use this for my fireplace mantle ... thanks

ooooooh. that IS fancy. I'm an aspiring fancy-pants woodworker and that helps tremendously, thanks!

Dear gr0leau,
You do not need a strip behind crown molding on walls, but it helps when you nail it. I show how to install this triangular strip in my Crown Molding EBook.

A home depot associate told me there should be a backing behind the molding, like a piece of strapping, is that true?

Great, how about those corners that are not a perfect 90? Caulking?
