beginner? most of the time it just takes time and practice. do some hand stretches but if after say a month or so of intense playing and the problem persists then i suggest buying a new guitar with a thinner neck

I am a beginner. Got a electric fender stratocaster for x-mas. I am having difficulty bending my wrist and getting my finger tips directly on the strings. When I do get on a string then it is difficult to not touch an adjacent string. Short fingers, fat finger tips and many arm and wrist injuries from motorcycle racing and martial arts are making this tough. I was able to kind of play the first part of this metallica riff, if I could only stop touching the adjacent strings.

i take it you are beginner so i suggest buying an epiphone guitar. they are cheap and have good quality and they have very thin necks so people with small fingers can easily play. and just remember, guitar is not something you pick up and start playing. your fingers need to develop calluses. just keep practicing and in no time small fingers will no longer be an issue.
