"Is it plugged in" - that question has saved me MANY hours of troubleshooting. IDE?! Does it show up in BIOS? No - it isn't plugged in... PS & BTW: NEVER EVER TRUST what the customer tells you... LISTEN, but take their input and integrate that into your entire diagnosis.

Yeah, I'm sure when you work at an obscure repair shop that no one's ever heard of you have time to completely take apart every computer any one brings to you. That must be nice.

THIS IS BS!!!!! why would an ide cable come out of the hard drive randomly?!? seriously?? computers stop working for any reason all the time, and unless some psycho wants to sabotage Best Buy like this and UNPLUGS AN IDE CABLE.. f this companyy

LOL at so-called experts charging 275.00 for a half a board LOL. Props up to the one service that did it for free lOL. I see GeekTeks are on a hunt to take down Geek Squad. keep doing your thing.

it takes minutes to find a disconnected ribbon cable..If there was a no power.check the power cord..

It takes time to find a problem like a disconnected cable. Especially as the customers description was that it had worked and then stopped, something not symptomatic to this problem. The last place you'd look is the IDE cable, I'd charge plenty for that time.
