Actually, The SCAR part of The Jokers Face is horizontal. if you listented during the movie, you would know. The Joker simply paints in the angled bits.

I was the joker for halloween. I used scarring liquid fo r the scars it worked okay but you couldnt really see it underneath the red makeup
