Stephanie had actually stopped singing this song for many years. She began singing it with the passing of some very close people to her. On her 1989 "HOME" LP (I still have the cassette) is when she brough the song out of retirement. Unfortunetly, if she does not sing this song in concerts people will feel cheated.

See if Diana was actually 18, or 24, or in her 20's Id say that a good assumption, but the fact was diana was 34 years old, and the fans of the wiz (according to my mom) really didnt want Diana to get that part, they wanted someone YOUNGER (like stephanie) to play it, which is why today it became a known as a SPOOF

Come on -- Diana got the part because she was a big star and people would go see the movie if she was in it. Very simple. Happens all the time to Broadway shows.

you know Stephanie didn't want to do this song. but boy did she tear it up. i love her voice hearing this song gives me hope.

wow unbelievable whitney dianna ,listen it does not matter dianna was commercial whitney was both commercial and talent stepanie all talent her voice is unique as was micheal you cant copy it, there are athousand of both only one stepanie peace

Stephanie(when she was 14, the original Dorthy in the wiz) then Diana in 78,then Whitney in 84. The truth is Stephanie won the part because she'd been playing dorthy on the wiz since it opend on broadway, so she was the 1st one they considered in the movie, but Diana wanted that part because she always felt like dorthys story was like her's, and EVERYONE was against her including Berry until she "Persuaded" him to letting her have it, and she was 34 and the part was for 14 (and stephanie was 18)
