I was a big fan of the Harden Trio; being an Arkansas boy myself at the time, you couldn't turn on a radio without hearing "Tippy-Toeing" for most of 1966. I have no doubt that the Harden's 'family harmonizing' got them noticed by the Carters, and when June went on maternity leave (the time of this broadcast of the Johnny Cash Show), Robbie (Fern) was a natural to stand in.

Yeah, the story there is that after the Carters did their first session with Ralph Peer, Maybelle's husband, Eck Carter (A.P.'s brother) went out and bought her the most expensive guitar he could find. He said he figured it would pay off later.
She played that same L5 on every recording she made, and nearly every public performance for the rest of her life. Divide that into the $350 that Eck paid for it; they got their money back!

Was this one of Maybelle's last live public performance's? She was a true music pioneer.
